September 11th 2010 : Silhouette party at Babesta, NYC If you (or your child) were not at Hilary Duff's wedding brunch or J Lo's 40th birthday, it's entirely possible that you haven't had a handcut silhouette created of your distinguished profile by Los Angeles based master scissor artist Karl Johnson. Worry not! He'll be at Babesta Cribz on Saturday, September 11 from 10:00am-5:00pm. We are taking appointments in 5 minute intervals throughout the day. These will make great gifts for holiday and perfectly personalized décor for a nursery. Johnson is a whiz with scissors (a regular Edward Scissorhands), and can create your personalized profile in a flash. The nitty gritty: Hand cut profiles are $25 each, and $15 for additional copies of the same profile. We will also have frames on hand available for purchase so everyone can walk out with a complete gift. This is a rare opportunity to see this craft his is an unusual skill in this era of computer generated imagery. May 2008 : Caped Crusaders. Superman has nothing on your little man
. A benefit for the Ronald Mc Donald House, your super-kid can try out his super-power of creativity, and make his very own fashion-forward customized cape for any crime-fighting he might be called upon to do. Giant craft tables with loads of supplies, light food and more! Although this is a supersized Babesta x-treme playdate, we only have room for 75 children, so reserve your spot now and support this amazing cause! Portrait photographer Christopher Auger-Domínguez will be on site to photograph the super kids in their alter ego outfits flying high above Gotham in their capes - with a little help from camera magic. Fashion Fantasy Game will give kids a chance to make capes online too, a fun way to practice their craft before getting out the glue! Food by Murray's Cheeses. Milk, Juice and White Wine will also be served. MAY 22, 4:00-6:00PM at Tribeca Cinema Gallery. 54 Varick Street (entrance on Canal). $25/cape. Proceeds donated to Ronald McDonald House. After making the cape, your child will be all set to whiz up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Superhero exhibit, that started May 7, and celebrates the fashionable frocks in which the caped crusaders we all know and love keep the streets safe from nefarious ne'er-do-wells. This Art Ratz event at Babesta gives children a chance to draw alongside amazing underground artist, JK5. The tattoo artist, painter and toymaker (he designed the Flowbots) will help your child tap into his creative spirit, break all boundaries of reality and draw, create and have a great time. An evening of drawing with JK5 is a treat for any age.
